PK/PD and PBPK position – Ref. 112A

Quantitative PK/PD Relationships: Pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic modelling is a critical activities related with the modern interpretation and prediction of pharmacological and toxicological hypothesis. Quantitative, mathematical links between drug concentration and drug effect, both in vitro and in vivo allow a rational testing of phar¬macological and toxicological hypotheses but also a more clear interpretation of mechanisms of action. In the phase of design a new therapeutic approach the selection of the appropriate biomarker is invaluable, and generate a PK/PD model is very important in designing clinical PoC scenarios, and may also be used in the regulatory setting.

Physiologically Based Pharmacokinetics: recently developed physiologically based pharmacokinetics (PBPK) methods are an extension of existing in silico tools, that allow early simulation of in vivo pharmacokinetics behavior based on traditional general physiology and a small set of experimentally determined (in vitro) or simulated parameters. PBPK is a very important tool to identify predictors for PK behavior based on molecular structure, but can also be used to probe in vivo mechanism of action and toxicity issues. The precision of predictions of human pharmacokinetics increases when allometry, complex Dedrick approaches and PBPK are applied.

Job description:

  •  Support the project team with the PBPK prediction to generate predictor of the PK behavior of the new agents
  • Advance the understanding of the action and in vivo behavior novel drug candidates through the design, analysis, and interpretation of preclinical and clinical pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) studies.
  • Aid in the development of novel drug candidates by preparing PK, PK/PD, and/or modeling and simulation components of study protocols, reports, project summaries, development plans, and regulatory submissions.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D., Pharm. D., and/or M.D.) in Biomedical, Biological or Pharmaceutical Science with industry experience.
  • In depth knowledge of PK and PK/PD concepts with a strong clinical pharmacology background.
  • Proficiency in PK and PK/PD analysis utilizing standard modeling software (NONMEM, ADAPT-II, R/S-Plus, WinNonlin, etc.) and their application to the drug development is a pre-requisite.
  • Experience designing, conducting and interpreting studies in population PK, PK/PD correlations, modeling and simulation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and a proven track record of working effectively in a dynamic, collaborative, team-oriented setting.

Collaborate with drug development teams by serving as a key contact for PK and PK/PD related issues and providing the PK and PK/PD perspective of drug candidates.
